Yukon NDP leader challenges other leaders to debate environment

Upon receiving news that neither the Liberals nor the Yukon Party would be sending their party leaders to the Yukon Conservation Society and CPAWS Yukon Environment Forum on Tuesday, Yukon NDP leader Liz Hanson issued a challenge to Sandy Silver and Darrell Pasloski to attend.

“From a carbon price to the Peel Watershed to fracking – environmental issues are front and centre in this election,” said Hanson. “These people are running to be Yukon's premier, and Yukoners deserve to know where they stand on the environment."

The Liberals and conservative Yukon Party opted to send candidates to the debate in place of Silver and Pasloski, according to information regarding the debate that was sent to all three parties on Thursday afternoon. At an all-party meeting prior to the campaign, the representatives of both the Yukon Party and the Liberal Party agreed that their leaders would be attending the CPAWS debate, but both leaders changed their mind earlier this week.

“I’ve been very clear – I’m running to be Premier. As Premier, I will always be clear on the issues and you’ll always know where I stand. That’s why I’m attending this very important debate – I will never shy away from the issues that matter to Yukoners,” said Hanson.
