We, the undersigned residents of Canada, draw attention to the Government of Canada of the following:
That the Rojas Martinez family of Whitehorse, Yukon have been issued a deportation order following a refusal of permanent residency on humanitarian grounds and the family's refusal was based on inadequate assistance from their immigration counsel and errors in processing the request by the government; and
That the youngest member of the family, Jonathan, is a Canadian citizen who was born in Whitehorse with a deformed skull and requires daily specialized medical attention; and
That the Rojas Martinez family is now faced with the tragic decision of leaving Jonathan as a ward of the state to receive the daily medical attention he needs, or bringing him with them to Mexico where he won't get the care he needs.
We call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Rescind the deportation order issued to the Rojas Martinez family; and
2. Review the Rojas Martinez family's application for permanent residency to keep the family together in Canada while ensuring Jonathan's right as a Canadian citizen to accessible and high-quality medical care.
