It's Time to Expand Home Care
Yukon NDP Leader Liz Hanson announced that a Yukon NDP government will expand home care to include evenings and weekends, as well as developing an array of home care services in rural communities. There will also be an increased emphasis on health care providers as part of that plan.
“Home care needs do not end when the work day ends,” said Hanson. “The conservative Yukon Party has failed to make home care a priority – but seniors and Elders have been clear that they want the option to age in place – and people with long-term conditions need higher quality and more integrated support. We need to make better choices that reflect how people want to live and grow old - it’s time to expand home care to include evenings and weekends, improve services in rural communities and increase the level of care provided.”
The Yukon NDP will invest $2 million over five years, on an escalating scale. This investment will add 45,000 hours of service. Home care is also recognized as a cost-effective care-delivery model.
“People have told us that home is the best place to recover from an illness or injury and manage long-term conditions,” said Hanson. “It’s time to expand home care so we can give our seniors and Elders, and those living with long-term conditions options that will allow them to live with independence and dignity in the homes and communities they love.”
