NDP Announces Community Consultations: Have Your Say! Listening to Yukoners' Priorities
WHITEHORSE - The Yukon NDP Official Opposition Caucus today announced a series of community consultations to be held over the next five weeks. The “Have Your Say! Listening to Yukoners’ Priorities” tour will visit eight Yukon communities from Watson Lake to Dawson City, beginning in Carcross next Monday, February 20.
“The NDP Official Opposition wants to hear from Yukoners,” said Opposition Leader Liz Hanson. “What are your priorities for this year’s Yukon government budget? What other issues matter to you? You’re invited to come out and have your say.”
This spring, the Yukon government will table a budget of approximately $1 billion. NDP MLAs want to hear Yukoners’ ideas and concerns so they can be brought forward in the Legislature.
“We campaigned on a promise of listening to Yukoners and inviting them to be part of their government again,” said Hanson. “This is one of the many ways we intend to deliver on that promise. We will continue to put forward our positive ideas on the issues facing our territory. Yukoners deserve to have their ideas heard.”
Liz Hanson and other NDP Opposition MLAs will hold consultations in Carcross, Haines Junction, Watson Lake, Teslin, Whitehorse, Dawson City and Mayo. Yukoners who cannot attend one of the public consultations are encouraged to share their ideas with the NDP Caucus by email, phone or mail.
“We’re not able to visit every Yukon community on this trip, but we’d like to hear from all Yukoners,” said Hanson. “We look forward to visiting other Yukon communities in the coming months.”
In addition to the public consultations, NDP MLAs will meet with First Nations Chiefs and Councils, municipal Mayors and Councils and other community organizations.
