October 2, 2025

Territory of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation, Dawson City, Yukon — Brent McDonald, a leader in education and Yukon Energy electrician has announced he is seeking the Yukon NDP nomination for Klondike in the 2025 territorial election.

“I am honoured to be running with Kate and our Yukon NDP team in this election,” said McDonald. “Our community deserves a strong voice, fighting to make life better for folks here in the Klondike. For years, I’ve worked with parents and educators to make life better for my neighbours. Now, I’m running to do that work with Kate White and her team.”

McDonald has lived in Dawson for more than 30 years. A general contractor and red-seal certified electrician for decades, McDonald currently works at Yukon Energy and has worked for the City of Dawson’s public works department.

In that time, he has devoted his time to the next generation of Dawsonites, working hard to expand childcare and education opportunities for young people.

As the President of the Board of Little Blue Daycare, McDonald worked with childcare workers and parents to lower the cost of childcare. This work led the way to the Yukon’s universal childcare program.

McDonald has served as the Co-Chair of Robert Service School Council for nearly 6 years (three consecutive terms), the vice chair of the Association of Yukon School Councils, Boards and Committees for two consecutive terms and as a member of the Dawson City Recreation Board. In these roles, he has worked closely with families to deliver better education for students and more support for local teachers.

“Brent is an incredible force of good for his neighbours” said Leader of the Yukon NDP Kate White. “For years, he has worked to make life better for families across Dawson, whether you’re a parent who depends on affordable daycare, a teacher who works at Robert Service School or you’re one of the countless people who rely on Brent’s work with Yukon Energy as an electrician. The people living in the Klondike can count on Brent and our entire Yukon NDP team.”
