Resource Access Roads Framework demonstrates an unbalanced approach

The following is a summary of a submission made by Lois Moorcroft on behalf of the Yukon NDP Official Opposition regarding the Yukon government’s Resource Access Roads Framework.

Excerpt from Yukon NDP Official Opposition submission to YESAB re oil and gas exploration drilling in Eagle Plains

I am writing today with regards to Northern Cross (Yukon) Limited's proposal to utilize hydraulic fracturing in its exploration programme in the Eagle Plains area. 

The Yukon NDP Official Opposition Caucus is opposed to the use of hydraulic fracturing (a.k.a. fracking) in the Yukon and therefore urges the Yukon Environmental & Socioeconomic Assessment Board to reject Northern Cross (Yukon) Limited’s proposal, insofar as it pertains to hydraulic fracturing.

WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party government’s announcement today of a five-year prohibition on mineral staking in parts of the City of Whitehorse leaves environmentally sensitive areas vulnerable to industrial activity. According to the City’s Official Community Plan, areas excluded from the mineral staking prohibition also include lands designated for future parks.
